Maybe you know a monster. Or maybe you are one. The important first step to STOP BEING A FUCKING MONSTER is to recognize it, and acknowledge the harm you or some other monster is doing. In that spirit, this site is a curated collection of some of the worst monsters of our time and their monstrous deeds.

But more importantly, for every monster or horrific act of monstery described here, we will also try to provide suggested action(s) that YOU, someone who is trying to STOP BEING A FUCKING MONSTER or stop other monsters from being monstrous, can take.

People Who Detain Children...

Unforgiveable Monsters

This is just the latest in a months-long horror show at our borders (and elsewhere cuz we like to ship these kids all across the country) as agents of ICE carry out the current adminstration's detention "policies," an unprecedentedly-monstrous interpretation of our asylum and immigration laws that has resulted in a record number of children being imprisoned away from their families as they await "processing."

Holy shit. I just read over that article again...14,000 kids as of November 30.

Nobody knows what to do with these kids (I have some suggestions...number one being don't automatically imprison people for crossing the border). The people making the decisions don't really seem to care. And the people who've won shiny new government contracts to build prisons and create the infrastructure needed to manage the influx of HUMAN BEINGS we are housing are profiting BIG LEAGUE.

I just don't know what it is about imprisoning children for profit, then letting them die in U.S. custody of septic shock and dehydration, that makes me want to scream and then shoot myself via rocket into the cold void of space...

Side note: With the growing number of children being detained, there has been an increase in arrests of adults already here in the US who have come forward to sponsor the children while their parents are in detention. So they are also being used as bait. Cool, huh?

I hate everything.

Here's some shit we can do while sitting on Elon's suicide-by-rocket-launch waitlist:

Posting bail for detainees (this article has a bunch of information and links to local and national immigrant bail funds) is probably one of the most effective ways to help keep families together in the short-term.
Paying detainees' other legal fees (they are not guaranteed any kind of legal counsel), or, better yet, if you're a lawyer, representing them pro bono!
- RAICES is a Texas-based advocacy group that provides free and low-cost legal services to immigrant and asylum-seeking families and has training for those wishing to donate their time
- See if there are any similar organizations in your own area you can donate money (or free legal counsel) to!
Families Belong Together is a coalition that "includes nearly 250 organizations representing Americans from all backgrounds who have joined together to fight family separation and promote dignity, unity, and compassion for all children and families." You can donate money, buy some of their merchandise (including a coloring book if that's your thing) or find other events or organizations all across the country dedicated to the cause through their site.
Harass the hell out of your lawmakers to let them know they are not off the hook for this one...and keep talking about this! To your mother. Your racist uncle. Your local grocer. Everyone. Nobody likes to hear about innocent kids dying in jail. Which is precisely why we have to keep reminding them that it is still happening.

No one should really have to pay for this, anyway...amirite?

Things you can do if this hurts your soul:

The majority of school districts in this country probably have unpaid student lunch debt, and with wealth disparity increasing, and school funding decreasing, this problem is sadly not going away. Contact your nearest school and ask if there is already a fund setup, and if not, consider starting one.
- Ashley C. Ford, a New York City writer, suggested via Twitter that people pay off student lunch debt and within weeks, people had donated thousands of dollars across the country.
- Jeffrey Lew in Washington state started raising money through GoFundMe to pay off the student lunch debt in his local school district and has launched another campaign to pay off the lunch debt in his entire state.
There is a local Facebook Group of parents and community members currently brainstorming ways to fundraise and address the school district's financial crisis. No official GoFundMe has been setup yet for those who wish to help pay off the student lunch debts, but a local restaurant owner has been fundraising in her restaurants since May!
For longer term solutions, nag your local and national lawmakers to increase local, state, and federal funding for things like the National School Lunch Program, and for public schools in general. This is just a symptom of a much bigger issue.
And consider socialism, for the children...seriously.

Financially-strapped school districts are bringing in debt collectors to deal with their outstanding student lunch balances, and the collection agencies are cashing in on the larger issue, which is the under-funding of our nation's schools and rapidly increasing wealth disparity (hey, neoliberalism...whuddup?). I can't even talk about "lunch shaming," which is a thing that apparently happens to different degrees in schools all across the country when kids show up to lunch and can't pay. The people who create and enforce those policies are another special kind of monster altogether.
